Hi Dreamwidth

I've been hearing about this site, so I thought I would give it a try. I have a Live Journal account and a facebook account, but I'm not real active either place. I'm going to look around here and see what's going on.

2017 is almost here ... Yes !!

Please let 2017 be a good year.  I'm not going to bother with resolutions.  I did see a funny resolution somewhere, I don't remember where.

My resolution is to stop procrasting, but I'm not going to start until next week.  This so describes me.

I didn't really have a bad year, but it sure has been bad for some people I know and care about.  My son has been dealing with company layoffs for the last couple of years.  He's still there and is doing well, but who knows how long that's going to last.  This company has been good to him.  He traveled around the world to many, many, places he would not have had an opportunity to go to otherwise.  And he enjoyed all of it.  I'm so glad he took that attitude, because it was a lot of traveling.  He's been there for 18 years.  I can't believe he's old enough to have had a job for 18 years.

My 74 year old brother is recuperating from kidney problems that caused him to have to spend a few days in the hospital.  Before they discharged him they put a stint in and kept it in for 4 weeks.  Most people we've talked to say one week is the norm.  His had to be in so long because the Doctor said his kidney was showing signs of closing up.  It was an absolute nightmare for 4 weeks.  He lives alone and there were times when he would get real depressed.  Our other brother and I kept him as entertained as we could and now the stint is out and he is doing so much better.  It was almost like flipping a switch. This was just a hard time for him to live alone, even though he loves living alone.  He enjoys his family and friends, and he has a lot, but he enjoys his time alone.

My brother-in-law has been dealing with his neighbors and the local police department.  He lives in California.  He started feeding and trying to take care of the stray cats that were around his neighborhood.  It ended up being way, way too many cats but he just couldn't bring himself to turn them away.  His neighbor's complained, the police came out, he wouldn't answer the door ... I'm not sure what he was trying to acomblish with that attitude.  He decided to bring some of the cats into the house.  He already had 3 indoor cats and now he has 12 ... in the house.  He managed to discourage the others to leave ... I'm not sure how.  He still won't talk to the police.  They've sent letters with a demand for payment of a fine and every time they send a letter, of course the amount goes up.  Who knows how this stand off is going to turn out.

Like I said, I didn't have a bad year.  We own our own home, I bought a new car at the beginning of the year and it's already paid off, so we own both of our vehicles.  And they are new enough that I shouldn't have to deal with some of the issues that older vehicles deal with.  I take both to my dealership to get the maintenance done so I don't really have to worry about them.  I've spent enough years stressing over old cars, that this is a real treat.  We put money into savings every month, our medical comes from VA and Tricare, which is the military insurance and now that I'm over 65 I don't make a monthly payment.  I don't see how things could be any better for us.  My husband is disabled, but we are both in pretty good shape ... for old people.  lol

All in all, it's time for 2016 to fade away and allow 2017 to take a stab at being a good year.

I'm going to try to do this every once in a while ... just because.  But, I'm not promising myself anything.

Answer for question 4608.

[Error: unknown template qotd]I find it interesting that liberals (generally identified with the Democrats) talk about the evil wealthy that the conservatives (generally identified with the Republicans) pander to and conveniently forget all about the wealthy Hollywood "elite" that they pander to. I'm mainly a conservative, although I do have some beliefs that are decidedly liberal.

I think it's sad that any American would "leave the country" if someone they didn't like was elected. There has never been a President that I agreed with 100% and our next President isn't going to be any different.

I have to say that I hope it isn't Donald Trump. I don't think he has a "filter" on his brain or mouth and I'm afraid he doesn't know the meaning of the word diplomatic. Most of the people I know feel the same.

This is an important time in our history, and personally I want to stick around and watch it all unfold.

Answer for question 4605.

[Error: unknown template qotd]I struggled with letting my son out of my sight, be his own person, make his own mistakes. I wish I had been able to read minds. And not just his ... the people, kids and adults, around him. I was a single parent until he was nine. I worried all the time. Even after he became an adult, joined the Navy and was a part of Desert Storm. Heck, I still watch the weather channel in his area. The really nice thing is he watches the weather channel in my area. He's turned into such a good man, I guess I didn't screw up too bad.

Answer for question 4604.

[Error: unknown template qotd]When I'm ready to sit down at the end of the day, a new episode of one of my favorite shows, or a movie that I'm willing to watch over and over is a great way to relax. I also love to read. When I'm looking for quiet, I read. Which ever way I go, my cat is in my lap. Hmm, maybe she's what's relaxing for me.

Answer for question 4603.

[Error: unknown template qotd]I would really be surprised if Hillary doesn't get the nomination.

On the other side, could Trump actually get the nomination? I guess that depends on his supporters. His rally's bring in lots of people, but are they there because they believe he should be President, or because he's a celebrity? Are they even going to vote? At least with the other candidates, their supporters are probably planning on voting. I don't believe Trump when he says he won't run as an Independent if he doesn't get the nomination. I don't see him giving up until it's all over.

I think Marco Rubio could win the nomination, but I haven't got a clue which side would actually win the election.

I don't know of anyone that I believe in enough to wish he/she would run for President. Of the people who are in politics today, most have their own agenda. If that agenda happens to coincide with "the good of the country", trust me, it's probably an accident.

[Error: unknown template qotd]My idea of dressing up is a new pair of jeans, maybe new tennis shoes and a nice t-shirt. I haven't been any where that needed something more in a long time. The last time I did have to dress up was for a wedding. I just wore a nice blue dress. Nothing special. I wasn't in the wedding, just a guest.

Answer for question 4583.

[Error: unknown template qotd]I'm an extreme introvert. For years I thought shy was just another name for it. As it turns out, they're different and I'm both. I worked in the same place for 20 years, looking back I suspect that was more because I didn't want to "start all over" someplace else. I was comfortable once I got to know everyone and I made friends. But when I retired, it was easy to pull away. I've been retired for 13 years and these days I'm happy to "hibernate" at home.

Answer for question 4584.

[Error: unknown template qotd]As far as I'm concerned, just making it to the end of 2015 makes the year a success. Nothing major happened good or bad. 2 days into 2016 things are going ok. It's pretty cold here, El Paso, and we haven't seen the sun yet, this year. That's kind of unusual for us ... they don't call us the Sun City for nothing. I've finally learned that making a resolution is the kiss of death for said resolution. Although I have decided to try to make a commitment to posting things to my LJ page this year, seems silly to have a page with nothing on it. We'll see how that goes. I'm not promising myself anything.

New Year Resolution

I've made a resolution that I think I might actually be able to keep.  That would be a first.  I figure if I'm going to keep LJ active, I should start posting.  I'm going to try ...

We are now 2 days into 2016 and it's cold here.  Really cold.  And we haven't seen the sun yet this year.  That's unusual for El Paso ... they don't call us the Sun City for nothing.  We average 297 sunny days.  This is why I live here.  Ok, not the only reason, but it's real high on my list of reasons.

My only leftover from 2015 is a computer problem that I can't seem to fix.  I have 4 computers at home, 2 desktops and 2 laptops.  I have upgraded all of them to windows 10.  The desktops went from win 7 pro to win 10 pro and the 2 laptops went from win 8.1 home to 10 home.  I like to network my computers, not because I really need to, but  because I can.  And learning to do new things with my computers is fun.  The problem is that the 2 laptops and one of the desktops all show up on the network, but the other desktop doesn't.  I've verified that all the settings are the same all around, but the one desktop just refuses to show up.  I've googled, and googled, and googled.  I've been out to several windows forums and I even broke down and talked to Microsoft.  How is it possible that I can set up 3 computers to network successfully, but I keep screwing up the 4th one?  It's positively mind boggling.  It's given me more than one headache.  But, I refuse to give up.  I don't care what it takes, I will fix this.

I'm done for tonight, I think.  I hope to come out here and talk a couple times a week, at least.

Answer for question 4581.

[Error: unknown template qotd]This one is going to be hard. I had to have been the most picky eater like ever. I hated peas, salmon, onions, tomatos. Now, I love onions and tomatos and I can actually eat salmon. Peas, however, will undoubtedly always be at the top of my "will not ever eat" list.

For some completely unknown reason, as a kid I loved Brussel Sprouts. Of course, now they make me gag. Which is as it should be.

Answer for question 4568.

[Error: unknown template qotd]I am so locked in the past, it's truly pathetic ... like as far back as the 60's. I'm not real good at knowing the artists and sometimes I'm not even sure what the name of the song is. When I was working I was lucky in that I was alone a lot of the time, so I didn't have to share the radio. Right now I'm listening to Christmas music ... I really love the holidays.

Answer for question 4560.

[Error: unknown template qotd]I use Ziploc bags for leftovers and when I've used the leftover I use the bag to throw away stuff that I can't put down the disposal. I hate a smelly trash can. The bags from the grocery store for the fresh veges I use for cleaning my cat's litter box. When we make homemade soups and stews I make enough for a couple of more meals and freeze them. I have a credit card that I use for gas on the army post I live by. I get 5 cents per gallon off ... it really adds up. I pay off my credit card every month because I absolutely hate to pay finance charges.

[Error: unknown template qotd]I absolutely adored Pepe Le Pew. He still cracks me up. I know I've seen all the classic Disney animated movies. Answer for question 4216.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Commercial breaks are not my favorite things but they can be of use. Actually, the last few years I've noticed more humor in commercials, so they're not too bad. I think my favorites are the Budweiser commercial's ... the Clydesdales especially. One year during the Super Bowl they were playing footfall. Very entertaining. I also enjoyed the several super bowl years that they had "The Bud Bowl" Bud Lite vs Bud.

Another favorite were the Allstate Mayhem guy commercials.

There are commercials for the Clash of Clans game that have all been funny. Right now my favorite is "Larry, don't touch that". Cracks me up every time I see it.

There is one commercial (I honestly don't know what it's for) that shows a lady in front of a self checkout. She keeps scanning an item and the cash register keeps telling her to rescan the item. After at least 6 or 7 scans it tells her to place the item in the bag, then probably 30 seconds later it tells her to rescan the item. The look on her face is priceless. I guess I identify with her. While I love to use the self checkout, it can be a challenge.
